In 2011, Florence Welch was not the only soulful songstress to release a string of ardent ballads in the form of a remarkable album. Kimbra Johnson, from her powerhouse voice to her dazzling songwriting skills, is one of the best artists to hit the studio in 2011. Presenting tales through a blend of soul and rock led to climatic points by the strength of her vocals, Vows is not only a stellar debut, it is one of the best albums of 2011.

FUNERAL SUITS-Colour Fade
Funeral Suits are a three-piece from Ireland consisting of Brian James, Mik McKeogh and Greg McCarthy. The music they make is expansive without being overblown, heavy without being menacing and all the more thrilling for its restraint. Funeral Suits debut single ‘Colour Fade’ will be released on May 2nd through Friends vs Records.
A shared love of epic, distorted guitars, blistering harmonius pop, art rock and electronica led to the band spending the best part of two years holed up in a disused office space in deepest North County Dublin, writing, rehearsing and at times venturing out to play as special guests for Franz Ferdinand, Passion Pit, The Maccabees, Local Natives amongst others.
Funeral Suits have recorded and finished their debut album with acclaimed producer Stephen Street (Blur, The Smiths) which is due to be released in 2011.
Funeral Suits first single ‘Colour Fade’ is already enjoying support from BBC Radio 1 DJ’s Zane Lowe, Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens. ‘Colour Fade’ is a song reflective of the trio’s hedonistic adolescence and burning passion to escape Dublin whilst hinting at big things to come from their full length.
After making their SXSW debut, Funeral Suits will tour both Ireland and the UK including Brighton’s Great Escape festival.

Picking up after their full release Wide Awake Tom and Julien have turned up the spacial feelings and like a 3-year-old on the night before Christmas morning, they’ve created this tension that is released throughout bits and pieces of each track.

He told me this: back in the old days, when the P.A. systems weren’t any good, he’d move up on the mic when he sang something loud. So, he’d work the mic backwards. When you wanted something soft, he’d back off the mic. That was from his old live concerts and that’s the way he works. He comes up to the mic and he’s got a really strong voice – the meters just go off the wall.”
